Product Review: Maybelline New York Tattoo Studio Waterproof Brow Gel

I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with my eyebrows. Sometimes they are looking fierce and other times I’m looking like Bert from Sesame Street. I just can’t get the technique down. I’ve tried pencils, powders, gel-powders, you name it. I’ve even contemplated microblading (if I can find a donor — procedure is not cheap!)

So when I came across this brow gel, I though, eh what do I have to lose. As you can tell from this picture, my coloring is a bit off. Either I try products that are too dark or too auburn. This is a combination of the two, so it’s what I’ve tried the longest.

Now, before you start mentioning my eyebrow symmetry… Yes! One is slightly higher than the other. Trust me, no technique can fix this. Just the way they are. Besides, I heard that eyebrows are not twins, more like sisters.

So I started by wiping off my previous eyebrow makeup.

Look at those puny eyebrows! After years of over tweezing, this is what I am left with. Thank you 90’s beauty trends (Pam Anderson, I’m looking at you.)

I purchased this brow gel at Walmart. Just under $10. The color I used is #257 Medium Brown.

Inside the box you will find the container and a small spoolie. The applicator is shaped like a soft-bristle spoolie but I noticed the tip was rather blunt. I decided to apply the gel and quickly noticed it was hard to create sharp angular lines. I wiped the product off and decided to use the small spoolie instead. I achieved better results and precision going this route.

And here is the final result. I think the color is better suited for me. Pretty easy to apply since you can use short, smooth strokes to achieve the results you are looking for. The box claims that this should hold up for two days. There is a disclaimer to avoid using oil-based or classic eye make up removers and avoid exfoliating. I will do that and follow up with you all in 2 days.

Update:  So if you head over to my Instagram page you’ll see day 2 results from the Maybelline Tattoo Brown Gel.  I like how easy it is to apply and I love that the color is better suited for me.  I do reapply everyday just to make the edges of my brows more refined.

Thoughts? I'd love to know!
